Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the religious scripture of Sikhism, revered by Sikhs as the ultimate, sovereign, and everlasting living Guru in continuation of the lineage of the ten human Gurus of the Sikh faith. The initial rendition, Adi Granth, was compiled by the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan. Subsequently, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, incorporated one salok, dohra mahala 9 ang 1429, and all 115 hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur into it. This revised version became renowned as Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The text comprises of 1430 angs (pages) and 6,000 shabads (line compositions), skillfully crafted in poetic form and set to a melodious ancient North Indian classical music style. The majority of the scripture is organized into thirty-one ragas, with each raga further subdivided based on length and author. The hymns in the scripture are predominantly categorized according to the ragas they are meant to be recited in. Written in Gurmukhi script, the Guru Granth Sahib embraces various languages including Lahnda (Western Punjabi), Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Sanskrit, Sindhi, and Persian. Versions in these languages are commonly known as Sant Bhasha.

Composed by seven Sikh Gurus: Guru Nanak Dev, Guru Angad Dev, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan Dev, Guru Hargobind, and Guru Tegh Bahadur; with an additional sloakh contributed by Guru Gobind Singh in mahala 9 Ang 1429. It embodies the beliefs and wisdom of Indian sants (saints) such as Ravidas, Ramananda, Kabir, Namdev along with two Muslim Sufi saints Bhagat Bhikan and Sheikh Farid.

The essence within the Guru Granth Sahib envisions a community founded on divine justice devoid of any form of oppression.
